Nine Decades of Sunshine

On the 24th of May, I had the distinct privilege of attending the 90th birthday celebration of a very special lady, Beryl Chapman. Beryl is the mother of my friend, David Lilley, and being invited along to share in this milestone was a true pleasure. Ninety years of life is an incredible achievement, and spending the day with Beryl made it easy to see why she is so dearly loved by those around her.
The celebrations began with a traditional tea party, filled with excellent food and plenty of lively banter. It was a wonderful opportunity to sit, talk, and laugh with the people who make up Beryl's world. The atmosphere was warm, relaxed, and full of genuine affection for the birthday girl.
Good Food and Shared Melodies
Once the tea party drew to a close, the festivities moved outside for a barbecue hosted by Beryl's neighbours. It turned out to be the perfect setting for a beautiful evening.
As the food cooked, music began to play, which sparked a brilliant, winding conversation about different songs and legendary artists. Everyone had a story to tell or a favourite track to defend, and it was fascinating to hear how deeply music connects different generations.
It was, from start to finish, a thoroughly enjoyable day. Celebrating 90 years with Beryl, surrounded by good food, great music, and wonderful company, was an honour, and a reminder of the simple joy of community.
